Submitting your site to directories are a vital linkbuilding technique. The paid directories give you a higher quality link, but if you're on a tight budget (like me) you prefer the FREE sites.
Free directories usually have strict policies regarding what sites because they have so make sure that you read the guidelines for each directory before you submit your site. Since they have so many submissions, it can take up to several weeks for them to approve your site.
I've included links and short reviews to give you an idea of how some free directories can help you out.
Open Directory Project
Open Directory Project is the most popular free Internet Directory, and the largest that I have found. Unfortunately since just about everyone uses ODP, it can be hard to get your website listed in the directory. Nevertheless, if you can get your site listed in their directory it will be a quality link and well worth your time.

LinkDirectory
Linkdirectory is a high quality directory that gives you the option to pay for a permanent link for either a year or a lifetime. In order to gain the best free link, you must put a reciprocal link on your site though. To visit Linkdirectory, click on the link below.
Onelink Directory
Onelink Directory is a directory and a free advertising site. You have to sign up to become a member and submit your site. As a member though, they will pay you when you refer other people. The website is simple to navigate, but since it is relatively new there aren't many sites listed and the pagerank isn't great.

MyNetServe is a newer Directory that offers a link in exchange for a reciprocal link on your site. Be one of the first to get listed! Visit MyNetServe by clicking the link below.
