Tips That Help You Use The Internet To Make and Save Money

  Making An Attractive Site

Colors

Did you notice that I used black for the title on this page instead of infusing it with color?  Not quite as attractive as the other title pages.  The first thing you need to do is use colors to make your website more appealing (I know, I know...this site isn't all that colorful, but do as I say not as I do).  It's very hard to concentrate on a plain black and white website.  The more flavor, the easier it is for your users/customers to navigate through your site and the more interest it generates in that specific area.  The background, the header, the titles, everything has to have color.  You do have to make sure that the colors fit well together though.  Try to avoid doing things like putting purple and yellow next to eachother (sorry LSU).

Use Spell Check!

If you want your site to have a shred of respectability, you MUST use correct spelling and grammar.  You need to constantly check your pages for mistakes.  I used to be a copy editor for a newspaper, and nothing aggravates me more than to see a mistake or an obvious error on a site that I'm reading.  Not only will this aggravate people, but it makes your site look unprofessional and gimmicky.

Be Concise

Think about it.  Do you read every word on a website or do you just skim through?  90% of your visitors will not read most of your website.  They're skimming through it to find the good parts.  If you want them to focus on the good parts, you have to draw their attention to it.  Get your point through, but don't bore your audience.  This takes quite a bit of effort and ingenuity on your part, and sets the great websites apart from the rest.

Pictures

People are drawn to pictures and flashing things.  You have to be careful with this because you can over do it very easily.  You need to find the happy medium that draws your visitor's and doesnt confuse them with ridiculous flashing motion.  Be careful of changing pictures.  My personal suggestion is to avoid "flash" type banners or pictures.

Consistency

Try to always stay consistent.  You see your website every day, so your layout, font and colors may seem boring to you.  I work at a Gator retail store, and after two years of working there Orange and Blue starts to all look the same, so I can relate (I still love the Gators though).  To an extent, variety is important, but you have to be careful because too much variety may lead people to subconsciously label your site as chaotic and disorganized.  Once again, try to find a happy medium between chaos and consistency.  You could try changing up some of the fonts on your headings or some of the colors on different pages.  Just don't make too drastic of changes.

Transitions

Use transitions to smooth out your writing.  You don't want the writing on your website to be choppy and off-beat.  You want it to flow, and capture the user's attention.  I have to force myself to do this, because my writing makes sense to me.  You just have to remember that this site isn't for YOU, it's for the visitors who have graced your site with their visits.
